The Pound Bar & Kitchen was originally a city goal, then later a gaoler’s house, and laterly a prison, before finally becoming the bar and kitchen we know today.
Astounding Interiors helped design The Pound, Canterbury’s newest venture that will “fuse contemporary British design with spectacular original features”.
We have kept the original features such as the cell doors and iron grilles, Victorian tiling in the vaulted cells has been kept but coloured in a modern copper tint, while each cell boasts bespoke British-made light fittings from Tom Dixon. The outcome is a heavy-duty, industrial inspired interior, with a rustic finish to create a moody interior with a atmospheric ambiance.
All areas of the building have been brought to life to maximise its potential, creating a vibrant daytime, visitor and evening destination for the city.
